For now, the obvious costs savings come from:
Money; by not using real ammunition (M4, M320, M246 and various grenades, etc.). Fuel, vehicles, rations for moving a field site to conduct this type of training in real world. OPFOR participation in a scenario is by virtual Semi-Automated entities Time. Time spent to/from training field sites completing scenarios, conducting AARs and then jumping back into the system to re-train in a matter of minutes/clicks. You don’t have to move everyone back to their physical start points/positions to run again, and of course, No repositioning of vehicles for restart.
“The biggest challenge was getting enough computer horsepower into the system yet still have it remain
relatively portable The system needed to be powerful enough to meet the Army’s requirements, light enough to be carried by two people, yet rugged enough to withstand the extreme weather conditions you might encounter. “This is not your typical system.” – Anthony R Howard
